The perfume house of Parfums d'Orsay is a truly aristocratic perfume line from France. The philosophy of the house is based on quality, understatement, character, seduction, praise, creativity and originality. They are very proud of their long tradition and heritage.

Although the house never belonged to the Count d'Orsay himself, his perfumes and the romantic air of his name gave birth to the Compagnie Francaise des Parfums d'Orsay, founded in 1908 with the goal to preserve the Count's perfume heritage and develop an aristocratic luxury perfume house on its basis. Many of the perfumes developed in this great perfume house were designed for men.

Intoxication was created in 1938. "Intoxication .. the champagne fragrance that whispers 'Someone lovely has just passed by wearing Intoxication". It is a delicious mingle of roses, lavender, lily of the valley, jasmine and spices.

Top notes are Bergamot, Lemon, and Mandarin Orange
Heart notes are Lily of the Valley, Lavender, Jasmine, Rose, Orange Blossom, Ylang Ylang, and Nutmeg
Base notes are Vanilla, Benzoin, Tonka Bean, Patchouli, Vetiver, and Sandalwood

"Intoxication by d’Orsay lives up to its name. Its addictive and sharp florals are sexy and bright and radiate like the rays of sunlight on a summer day. It starts off sharp, sparkling, and sweetly floral, with bergamot, aldehydes, ylang-ylang, jasmine, orange blossom and maybe a little hyacinth or narcissus. There's definitely some spice here, perhaps from nutmeg or patchouli. Intoxication goes to your heart. It is the ultimate pulse stirring perfume by D'Orsay."

"Intoxication has been called one of D’Orsay’s great chypres. For my nose the citrus opening has not survived the years. I am immediately plunged into the rose and jasmine, “dark, rich and velvety” as R. Baker notes in the review here. The tonka, vanilla and amber are given an animalic musk and depth from the styrax, which makes all the difference in this original composition. There is a spiciness, which emerges to float above the florals, which must derive from the nutmeg. The dry down is very warm and rich, a truly gorgeous chypre. I am not aware of any obvious oak moss, the blending is so truly masterful, but don’t doubt it is there.
