"A woman’s perfume tells me more about her than her handwriting.’ So said Christian Dior, who was born in 1905, and who was one of the greatest-ever couturiers, but yet a man whose name is also synonymous, all over the world, with the art of perfume." The Perfume Society.
There is so much to write about Christian Dior, and I have written extensively about his amazing history in my other Dior listings, so I’ll leave it out here.
Dior Dior was launched in 1976. The nose behind this fragrance is Edmond Roudnitska. Dior Dior is a Chypre Floral fragrance for women. ' It is a fresh green floral chypre tart enough to slice through the muggy July heat, but with an animalic edge.'
This gorgeous perfume has an intense aroma of narcissus and white florals. Narcissus has been called the "bread for the soul” .. it's so beautiful and intense! Dior-Dior also has a clear melon note which Roudnitska put in several of his perfumes, also notably Diorella, and it is discernible .. this melon in a Roudnitska composition 'seems to serve as a memento of summery laughs in the autumnal mistiness that the chypre base juxtaposes.'
And the fresh jasmine compliments the lovely lily of the valley accord that Roudnitska so intently masterminded for his soliflore apotheosis, Diorissimo. These notes breathe and deepen into a very feminine and quite urbane fragrance.
'At first, Dior-Dior is a shattering mix of citrus and green narcissus with a tiny hint of watery melon. It smells fresh as an icy cologne after a shower. People new to perfume might be a little put off by Dior Dior’s force, but within minutes the fragrance settles closer to the skin and softens. Its frisson of crisp spring flowers sweetens just a little. The perfume is softened further by a lovely hint of civet.
'Dior-Dior is refreshing and angular, full of lively springtime, but I wouldn’t call it sheer or one-dimensional. It smells like a real perfume .. a fascinating mix of textures and sensations. The tingle of jasmine and narcissus, the almost tannic green notes, the fuzzy, earthiness of wood-softened moss, and the shock of civet keeps one riveted.'
Top notes are Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Lilac, Bergamot, and Melon
Heart notes are Narcissus, Lily of the Valley, and Green Notes
Base notes are Oak Moss, Soft Wood, and Amber
