Myrurgia Perfumery was established by Esteban Monegal Prat, a Catalan sculptor who lived from 1888 to 1970, and was resident at 239 Calle de Cansejo, Ciento, Spain in the early 1900’s.

The actual business named Myrurgia was established in Barcelona, Spain in 1916, and was a family business founded by members of the Monegal family. The company's name Myrurgia was created from the Greek words for "essence" and "industry". With the combined efforts of wealthy chemical industrialist Raymon Monegal, his money, marketing skills, and the artistic talents of his son, the sculptor, Esteve Monegal Prat, their partnership helped to build the company into the successful name that we know today.

Esteve earned university degrees in Paris and Barcelona. His perfumery training took place in Grasse, Paris, and with Firmenich in Geneva, which company also helped to develop the exquisite fragrances, soaps and other products of the Myryrgia which gained a major presence in the area surrounding Barcelona, and soon, the world would get a taste of what was so popular in the Catalonian region.

The company produced perfumes, cosmetic and toiletries. They won a Gold Medal in 1925 Paris Exhibition. Myrurgia was distributed in the USA by Vivaudou up until 1931 when they sold the line. The company was later bought by Dr. Payot in the 1980's and by Antonio Puig Parfumes in 2001.

This is a very rare bottle of Myrurgia perfume. I have never seen another. Myrurgia made exotic perfumes during the early 1920's, such as Hindustan, which would set itself apart from other perfumes by tapping into a trend of Orientalism that was fashionable in European society at the time, yet still retaining an air of exclusivity and sophistication. There was also Morisca, which was Moorish; Vanda Suavis, which was Orchid; Mimosa de Oro was Golden Mimosa; Rosa de Bagdad, an exotic rose. The perfume is presented in a beautiful crystal skyscraper bottle as was so fashionable in the roaring 20's.

There are no notes remaining for Hawaii, but I am going to suggest it is a bouquet of exotic island flowers underpinned by island sandalwood, myrrh, and ambergris. Here is my suggestion for this sumptuous and tremendously rare perfume ..

Top notes are Citrus, Neroli, Bergamot, and Petitgrain
Heart notes are Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Orchid, Franjipani, Plumeria, Tiare, Pikake, White Ginger, and Gardenia
Base notes are Sandalwood, Vetiver, Lemon Grass, Myrrh, and Ambergris

"This great rarity is a sumptuous and unique scent. The closest generic term I can come up with to describe it is: Fruity, Floral Leather. Its warm and attractive base is present from the start. The combination of myrrh, ambergris, vetiver and sandalwood sits close to the skin and gives the impression of leather which has been rubbed with lemon rind .. the lemon grass component ..

"Practically every tropical flower oil in commercial use .. ylang ylang, orchid, frangipani, tiare, pikake, white ginger .. are included. These are blended so very well that one gets not individual notes vying for attention, but a luscious, almost heavy, aroma, reminiscent of apricot, floating on a twilit ocean breeze. The lemon and neroli sit atop this gorgeous creation to give it a lift and freshness. I have never experienced a scent that comes close to it, it’s that unique." Basenotes Review. Jack Twist

Offered here is an opportunity to try a rare old Spanish perfume from this highly esteemed perfumery in Barcelona. It is exquisite and captivating on the skin ..
