Parfums de Volnay of Paris France and Suresnes France was established in 1919 by Rene Duval, who had previously worked for perfumer Coty and established Brahma perfumery in 1912, producing Oriental style presentations. Volnay soon became very successful and had opened branches in London, Milan, Brussels, New York, South America and Australia. Volnay also produced perfumes for other companies such as Fontanis.

Volnay created some of the finest presentations utilizing unusual names and eclectic styles inspired by exotic and romantic themes. Best known for the use of a pearlized finish called 'laitence de hareng', created by Andre Jolivet, on their perfume bottles, such as the one for Perlinette in 1925 which were designed by Nesle Normandeuse.

The beautiful Cachucha was launched in 1937 in honour of the famous gypsy dances that were evident as far back as the 1830’s in Andalusia. These dancers sang and danced, playing the castanets, often in the streets, and became famous in Europe, finally dancing at the Paris opera. Appearing right at the tail end of the Art Deco period, this beautiful perfume evoked a sense of passion and romance.

As the name Cachucha would evoke, the perfume is a slightly spicy and is a lively floral chypre. Beautiful, romantic and full of the gaiety of Paris, Cachucha matched the sparkling atmosphere of Parisian life.

Top notes are Rose, Jasmine, Neroli, Ylang Ylang, Lily of the Valley and Lilac
Middle notes are Oak Moss, Labdanum, Soft Spices, Nutmeg, and Carnation
Base notes are Sandalwood, Cedar, Vanilla, and Ambergris

Offered her is a magnificent 50 ml. flacon, it has been opened and gently use, and it comes in its beautiful presentation box. It has a beautiful fan-shaped neck tag to accentuate the notion of the costume of the dancers. A real treasure to find in this condition. I have read that the bottle was created by Baccarat, but I find no mark.
