Révillon Frères, the Révillon Brothers, was a French fur and luxury goods company, founded in Paris in 1723. Then called la Maison Givelet, it was purchased by Louis-Victor Révillon in 1839 and soon, as Révillon Frères, became the largest fur company in France. Branches were opened in London in 1869 and in New York in 1878. At the end of the 19th century, Révillon had stores in Paris, London, New York, and Montreal.

Through its fur buying bureau in Leipzig, Germany in 1876, and an agency in Moscow in 1905, the company bought most of its furs from the markets of Moscow, Leipzig and at the annual fairs in Nizhny Novgorod, Gorki at the Makaryev Fair, and also in Irbit at the Irbit Fair. From 1908-1909 Révillon Frères opened fur trading posts in Siberia, Mongolia and Turkestan. By 1912 Révillon Frères had 125 fur trading posts in America and Siberia. In 1982, Révillon was acquired by hypermarket operator Cora, and became its luxury division Cora-Révillon Subsequently, Cora-Révillon became a separate company, now privately owned, with Révillon as its primary brand.

Besides furs, Révillon produced perfumes, and Révillon bought Caron on the death of M. Daltroff in 1940, and acquired Millot in 1963. They were really strong players at the time.

Carnet de Bal is a classic fragrance that was created by Maurice Shaller in 1937. It opens with citrus and fruit notes along with chamomile. The heart is floral with rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, lily and cyclamen, laid on a base of patchouli, oak moss, amber, and vanilla

Maurice Schaller, originally a representative for perfumery glassware, was invited to run Paul Poiret's perfume department. He then took a keen interest in perfume technology and later created such excellent perfumes as Revillon's Carnet de Bal. The perfume was named after the 1937 movie, Un Carnet de bal .. an episodic, star-studded film, directed by Julien Duvivier, that had a great success here in the emerging foreign film theatres and was widely imitated in Hollywood and Europe. Carnet de bal means ‘ticket to the ball’ or ‘dance ticket’.

Top notes are Citrus, Bergamot, Peach, and Acacia
Middle notes are Roman chamomile, Cyclamen, Rose, Florentine Iris, Jasmine, Lily, Madagascan Ylang Ylang, and Coriander
Base notes are Sandalwood, Vetiver, Ambergris, Patchouli, Oak Moss, and Vanilla

Offered here is the inimical brandy goblet shaped flacon of Carnet de Bal but without its box. A small amount of evaporation has occurred, though it is still sealed and the baudrouche is in tact. Highly collectible .. and really delightful!
