Jean de Galimard lived in Grasse in 1747, where he created the company knows as Parfumerie Galimard. He was the actual founder of the corporation of Glovemakers and Perfumers. Galimard supplied the court of Louis, the well-beloved, King of France, with olive oil, pomades and perfumes from which he developed the first known formulas. Since perfume was used to scent the fashionable gloves, the industries literally grew together hand in hand.

Jean de Galimard was Lord of Seranon and was related to the Count of Thorenc. For over 266 years, Parfumerie Galimard has followed the same traditions as its renowned founder and currently uses the very processes which made its name famous.

Already recognised as an intangible cultural heritage of France, the know-how related to perfume in the Grasse area has been declared as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO on 28 November 2018. Thanks to the precious scents indigenous to the French Riviera, Grasse was awarded the title of World Capital of Perfume. At the end of the 18th century, Grasse laid the foundation for a powerful industry with the extraordinary development that we see today.

Among their huge repertoire of perfumes, Galimard Cuir de Russie is an outstanding fragrance. Cuir de Russie, or Russian leather was a popular theme at the end of the 19th century. Many perfume houses were creating perfumes for women who smoked cigarettes. Galimard created this fragrance in the 1920's. The fragrance is provocative and shocking, and that exactly was its purpose, because it was created for a woman who dared to smoke cigarettes in public. It was a kind of encouragement and approval, because at that time a woman who smoked was a scandalous and inconceivable symbol of emancipation.

The composition starts with aldehydes moderated by mild nectar of classical trio .. rose, jasmine and ylang-ylang. The ending comes as smoky, animalistic note of dark leather. The main notes are: orange blossom, bergamot, mandarin, sage, iris, jasmine, rose, ylang ylang, cedarwood, vetiver, styrax, leather, amber and vanilla.

Base notes are Cedarwood, Vetiver, Styrax, Leather, Amber, and Vanilla

Offered here is a fabulous old 180 ml. or 6 oz. flacon of this gorgeous fragrant perfume. It does not have its original presentation box. It smells absolutely fabulous at the neck ! Very little evaporation. Super rare to ever find a bottle this size of this delicious fragrance .. Collectors!! Label is a little blemished with age.
