'Molyneux' was founded by the British fashion designer Edward Molyneux from London. He opened his own fashion house in Paris in France in 1919 after working for the design house of Lucile. He dressed famous personalities, among them Greta Garbo, Gertrude Lawrence, Margaret Leighton and Vivien Leigh, and his designs were admired by Christian Dior and Pierre Balmain.
Le Numero Cinq was launched in 1925. It was Molyneux’s most famous perfume, also known as Number Five, his lucky number, the same as Chanel’s. In fact, author Luca Turin states that Chanel and Molyneux befriended one another and had hatched an idea to both bring out a perfume called No. 5 on the same day in 1921. This is one of the past century's great 'chypres'.
Perfume lovers will agree that this No. 5 is quite simply superb. A feast for the olfactory glands and further proof that the first half of the prior century was the golden age of great perfumes. One perfume connoisseur stated that it “smells like stewed fruit and rich flowers resting on a vanillic and ambery-spicy base, kissed with orris.”
Top notes are Neroli, Orange Blossom, and Bergamot
Heart notes are Iris, Plum, Carnation, Ylang Ylang, and Lilac
Base notes are Labdanum, Orris, Patchouli, Amber, Vanilla, Benzoin, Sandalwood, and Oak Moss
Offered here is a glorious little 7.5 ml. flacon of this divine perfume. It is still sealed and has never been used. This is a gorgeous perfume, really elegant and classic .. a personal favorite of mine. Increasingly rare now ..
