In 1925, when he was only 22 years old, Marcel Rochas set up his first fashion company in Paris, at Place Beauvau. Soon he reigned over the Parisian Couture and become famous for the "fashion of the youth". His customers included many Hollywood celebrities such as Carole Lombard, Marlene Dietrich and Mae West. From 1925 until 1953, when the haute couture division closed its doors, Marcel Rochas dressed women in forward-thinking fashions that also celebrated traditional feminine silhouettes.

The company expanded its offerings to include fragrances, starting with a trio of perfumes, Avenue Matignon, Air Jeune and Audace, in 1934. The perfumes were taken off the market during World War II, but the company's most famous fragrance, the classic Femme, was launched in 1943 and remains a perennial best-seller. All these fragrances owe their creation to the talent of Edmond Roudnitska.

Hélène Rochas took over the reins of company until 1971. In 1955, the headquarters of the company was permanently transferred rue François 1er in Paris, in the mansion that belonged to Marcel Rochas.

Through the work of Albert Gosset and his "creation" team the perfume "MADAME ROCHAS” was born. This fragrance was composed by Guy Robert. The bottle is a replica of janusette eighteenth century Baccarat crystal flacon that Helene Rochas discovered in the shop of a Parisian antique dealer. It was this fragrance that propelled the company into first place in luxury perfumes in 1967.

Top notes are Bergamot, Lemon, and Orange Blossom
Heart notes are Jasmine, Rose, Tuberose, Lily of the Valley, Violet, and Ylang Ylang
Base notes are Orris Root, Immortelle, Narcissus, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Cedar, Oak Moss, Amber, and Tonka Bean.

Madame Rochas is a warm fragrance that can be used any time of day. This is a beautiful two ounce flacon from the early 1960’s and has not been used. It comes with its original presentation box.
