Fragonard is one of France’s most renowned perfume brands, founded in Grasse in 1926. With nearly a century of family heritage, the brand continues to craft its exquisite fragrances in its factories along the Côte d’Azur. Deeply rooted in the art of perfume-making and the Provençal way of life, Fragonard has built an outstanding reputation across Europe.
The brand also has a strong presence in Paris, near the Opéra Garnier, where it has opened its iconic Perfume Museum. This elegant space invites visitors to explore the history of fragrance while also offering a boutique featuring an extensive selection of perfumes, cosmetics, and home fragrances cherished by both Parisians and travelers. In this article, we have selected some of the best products to buy there.
Fragonard's historic perfume factory in the heart of the Old Town is one of the oldest in Grasse. Their present premises has housed perfume making from their inception in 1782. The company was established on Boulevard Fragonard, in Grasse when Eugene Fuchs bought the existing company named Mottet in 1782. The house of Fragonard still creates and manufactures high-class fragrances and produces perfume for other well-known perfume houses as well. A well known example of this was 'Blue Grass’ which Fragonard made for Elizabeth Arden. Grasse is where most of the flowers for perfumery are grown in France.
In 1926 the perfumery took the name of Parfumerie Fragonard as a tribute to the famous painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard. Here on a daily basis they produce their perfumes, cosmetics and soaps in a setting imbued with respect for tradition. The Historic Factory is located at 20 Boulevard Fragonard, in Grasse and is open to visitors. There is a beautiful perfume museum attached to the premises. It is one of the great early perfume houses that is still in full production.
While a precise creation date for Fragonard's Point d'Interrogation eau de toilette cannot be found, sources on the perfume house's history indicate it was released well after the company's founding in 1926.
This beautiful Eau de Toilette is quite historic and is the forerunner of another later Fragonard Eau de Toilette known as Eau de Toilette Fragonard.
Top notes are Hyacinth and Apple
Heart notes are Jasmin, Orange Blosson, and Lily of the Valley
Base notes are Cedar and Sandalwood
The scent is described as an intense and bewitching floral fragrance that evokes a bouquet of freshly picked spring flowers. It opens with fresh notes of hyacinth and apple, transitions into a floral heart of jasmine, orange blossom, and lily of the valley, and finishes with a deep, woody base of cedarwood and musk.
This gorgeous Eau de Toilette is presented in these gorgeous pear shaped bottles, with twisted glass stoppers. The pear shaped flacon is dimpled in a way similar to Caron's beautiful Poivree bottle.
I happened to come across three lovely old bottles of this iconic fragrance. They were all missing their hang tags / labels, so I made some myself, copying an existing one that I have. These are NOT the original labels.
Offered here is a gorgeous one ounce pristine bottle of the lovely Eau de Toilette, never opened or used, with little evaporation over the years .. heavenly!
