The Ravel Perfume Corp was established in Nice, France and had a branch in New York City. Ravel was established by Aizic Manole in the 1940s after his partnership in the Legrain perfumery company was dissolved just before the second world war. Ravel also produced cosmetics such as nail polish.

The name Ravel was chosen after the name composer and subsequently Ravel released several perfumes with names taken from famous songs of the era. Pagoda was created by Ravel Perfumes in 1945 by Hungarian perfumer Aizic Manole after WWII.

Simon Moscovici, who was an accountant at a major pharmacy in Bucharest, along with a friend Aizic Manole, a tailor, decided to enter the world of perfumery. Their vision was a perfume shop that exclusively imported all of its products from France and decided to christen it with a French name "Legrain", to give it some finesse.

Henry’s son Enrique stated that “When the Balkan Wars started in 1912 - 1913, not much French perfume came into Romania, so in 1915, the Legrain perfumery was created.” By 1919, the building of the factory was finally finished at No. 2 Octavian Goga Street next to a locomotive factory. The Legrain factory manufactured soap, cosmetics, perfumes and colognes.

Legrain was later established in 1921 in France at 9 Rue Richepanse, Paris, by Simon Moscovitz with associate Manole Aizic. Moscovitz was later known as Simon Legrain or Isidore Legrain. They produced luxurious presentations.

Though there is no remaining information on the notes of this exquisite perfume, my guess is that it is something like this .. It does resemble F. Millot's beautiful Crepe de Chine.

Top notes are Neroli, Bergamot, Basil, Peru Oil and Aldehydes
Heart notes are Gardenia, Ylang Ylang, Sage, Rose Otto, Chamomile, and Jasmine
Base notes are Sandalwood, Musk, Oak Moss, Vanilla, Vetiver, Patchouli, and Benzoin

Offered here is an extremely rare bottle of this really beautiful perfume. No box. Ravel is a long forgotten producer now, but I have found the perfumes created by this company to be exemplary. The bottle is gently gilded with a soft gold shimmer, and I believe that some gold leaf was used. This bottle is almost full. The perfume is captivating and gorgeous .. Very very rare ..
