The London Shop was opened in 1939 in various locations in the USA, most notably in Pennsylvania and Alabama, and is a serious fashion house for the most discerning gentlemen, offering several well known high end brands of men's clothing.
Imperial Russian Leather Cologne has been around since the late 1700's and was made by various British perfumers over the years. The brand name had its origin in 1768 when Russian nobleman Count Grigory Orlov commissioned a bottle from Bayleys of Bond Street in London.
The perfume was called 'Eau de Cologne Imperiale Russe'. Russia leather was a high-quality leather exported widely from Russia and recognisable by a distinctive aroma from its birch oil tanning process. In 1921 Bayleys was acquired by Cussons Sons & Co, owned by Alexander Tom Cussons. It was not until some years later in 1938 that, using a version of the original perfume, the soap 'Imperial Leather' was created by Alexander Tom Cussons. I think the following notes will be found ..
Top notes are Bergamot, Mandarin Orange, and Orange Blossom
Heart notes are Honeysuckle, Rose, and Carnation
Base notes are Sandalwood, Patchouli, Frankincense, and Cedar Wood
