Roger & Gallet is a French perfume house founded by Charles Armand Roger and Charles Martial Gallet in 1862. The history of this house actually begins many years before the company was founded. The real roots of the much-loved fragrance house of Roger & Galleat go back, astonishingly, to 1693 and the creation of ‘Acqua Mirabilis’, or ‘miracle water’, a distillation of medicinal plants, later patented by the Cologne Faculty of Medicine in 1727.
But it was in 1806 that Jean-Marie Farina, heir to the precious ‘apothecary formula’ for ‘Acqua Mirabilis’ .. and official supplier of fragrances to Napoleon I .. created his own ‘Eau de Cologne’. That’s a name you’ll still see today .. as refreshing as it ever was, and just one of a delicious, sense-awakening collection of fragrances which we have always enjoyed from Roger & Gallet.
Le Jade by Roger et Gallet was launched in 1923. The perfume Le Jade was subtitled "The Precious Perfume.” At the time of its launching, it was a complete line including perfume extract, toilet water, soap, face powder, bath salts, sachet powder and talc.
Le Jade is classified as an oriental fragrance for women with a chypre base, opening with bright hesperidic notes and then softening in the dry down to reveal the sweetness of Tonka Bean and Vanilla, and a lovely musky trail of animalic notes and sweet woods.
Top notes are Bergamot, Lemon, Lime, Orange Blossom, and Neroli
Heart notes are Galbanum, Oakmoss, Jasmine, and Patchouli
Base notes are Ambergris, Civet, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Tonka Bean, Musk, and Vanilla
Vanity Fair, 1923:
"The announcement in Paris of a new fragrance by Roger & Gallet, favored perfumers of the world's most beautiful women, is an artistic event....Jade is the color and, in precious stones, the personal decoration of the day."
Le Jade was housed in various bottles of the years, but its most beloved and coveted is the opaque jade green glass flacon by Rene Lalique. This bottle has a design of tropical birds molded in relief and is shaped like a Chinese snuff bottle, shown in one of the images above.
Offered here is a sealed 60 ml. flacon of this wonderful perfume nestled in its original box. Never exposed to light or heat, this lovely perfume has kept its greenish tint. Very rare and highly collectible. A real treasure!!
