Established by Ernest Daltroff in 1904, Parfums Caron was originally located on Rue de la Paix in Paris. Daltroff purchased the perfumery from Anne-Marie Caron and kept the original name. At the same time, he met Félicie Wanpouille, who became his partner and an important contributor to the rise of the house. While Daltroff created fragrances, Wanpouille designed bottles and served as an artistic director.

Caron is the second-oldest Parisian perfume house still active today, and one of the last great houses devoted entirely to fragrances. Caron’s fragrances respond to, and capture the spirit of their times—from WWI to modern women, their scents reflect both personal emotions and historical moments. The company has been able to adapt to changes in society while staying true to its own tradition. Even Caron’s modern perfumes continue to be both unique and timeless.

From the beginning, Parfums Caron was the house dedicated solely to fragrance, unlike houses like Chanel or Christian Dior that were first and foremost fashion houses. While the perfume houses produced more fragrances than fashion houses, by the 1920s women started to look at perfume the same way they regarded new fashion styles. However, as the couture fragrances became more and more popular, they provided a stable point in the ever changing world fashion, therefore the pace of perfume production began to decline. Launched in 1911, Narcisse Noir by Caron is a floral fruity feminine fragrance for women. The nose behind this fragrance is Ernest Daltroff and the beautiful bottle was designed by Félicie Bergaud.

This poetic frangrance was created in honor of the consecration of the House of Caron. Its originality lies in the orange note added to the flowery, fruity base that includes rose, jasmine, vetiver, and sandalwood, making it sweet and fresh. Fragrantia

"Narcisse Noir starts with very heady notes of sweet citrus and orange blossom. The orange blossom is joined shortly by the beautiful Persian black narcissus, but maintains its prominence through the dry down. Once the top notes fade, it is deep, rich, and very elegant, but no longer particularly heady or overly sweet. As one would expect from a classic Caron fragrance, it is dark, but it is less so than some of the others, and it is also surprisingly clean, with hints of soap and powder. A wisp of smoke .. very like sandalwood incense .. runs through the floral notes, and along with the civet provides some depth and counteracts the sweetness. It is a stunningly beautiful fragrance."

Offered here a beautiful and vintage six ounce flacon of Narcisse Noir in the Lotion or Tonique Elixir form. It is still sealed and comes in its original inner and outer presentation box and paper wrap.. I had to remove the outer wrap in order to photograph it. It is in beautiful condition. Refreshing, warm, and precious .. So hard to find now ..
