François Spoturno, originally from Corsica, studied perfumery with Antoine Chiris in Grasse for one or two years before moving to Paris, adopting a variation on his mother's name, which was 'Coti', and launching his perfume business with La Rose Jacqueminot in 1904.

Coty was one of the first to understand the importance of fragrance packaging, and more specifically a beautiful bottle .. "A perfume is seen as much as it is smelled", he said. His business expanded, eventually encompassing cosmetics and powders as well as perfumes, until he was one of the wealthiest men in France. In addition to revolutionizing the packaging and marketing of perfume, Coty was also a respected perfumer.

Originally launched in 1906, La Rose Jacqueminot by Coty is a soft floral fragrance for women. The nose behind this fragrance is Francois Coty. The fragrance features tincture of rose. La Rose Jacqueminot was Coty's first official fragrance, and it is considered one of the first modern soliflores. When floral bouquets were at the height of popularity, Coty designed a unique new fragrance structured around a single floral note .. the May of Centifolia Rose.

"The fragrance starts out with a bright mix of spicy greens and soft honey, creating the impression of a rosebud preparing to unfurl and reveal its bright petals. While some sources list La Rose Jacqueminot as a rose soliflore, I find this to be far from true. As the fragrance progresses, the honey impression is punctuated by warm Autumn spices of cardamom and clove which make for a dark and complex rose. As the fragrance warms on the skin, the spices settle and the rose becomes more subdued. Thereafter, as the more animalic basenotes of musk and amber emerge, the effect is more of a chypre tinged with rose than a true rose scent, as though the rose is simply there to temper the complexity of the chypre accords. The fragrance in the Parfum concentration is fairly long lasting, yet wears close, with a subtle silage."

Top notes are Aldehydes, Tea Rose, Bulgarian Rose, Jacqueminto Rose, and Green
Heart notes are Jasmine, Cabbage Rose, Damask Rose, Violet, Ylang Ylang, Honey, Orange Blossom, Lavender, Clove, Nutmet, and Cardomom
Base notes are Oak Moss, Ambergris, Indian Musk, Mysore Sandalwood, and Tobacco
