Founded in 1749, Potter & Moore is one of England’s oldest fragrance and toiletries companies. Originating as "physic gardeners" in Mitcham, Surrey, they are world-renowned for cultivating and distilling authentic Mitcham Lavender. They set up a distillery to extract lavender oil in 1749. Even during the 1,500's growing lavender was an important industry that continue for many years, before Queen Victoria made lavender fragrances popular during her reign.
John Potter and William Moore founded the house. They were known as garden physicists back then, since they were experts of herbs and flowers, especially lavender. They used their knowledge to start producing bath, body and beauty natural products. Gracie Fields re started the company Potter & Moore in 1937. Today’s products reflect over 250 years of expertise.
The company was established by botanists Ephraim Potter and William Moore. They utilised their herbal expertise to capture the essence of lavender and peppermint, which were famously grown in the blue flower fields of 18th-century Surrey. Their flagship scent is the historic Mitcham Lavender. While they no longer operate a distillery in Surrey, the brand offers a variety of bath and body collections under the modern Potter & Moore PLC.
