Lancôme Paris is a French luxury perfumes and cosmetics house that distributes products internationally. Lancôme is part of the L'Oreal Luxury Products division, which is its parent company and offers skin care, fragrances, and makeup at higher-end prices.

Founded in 1935 by Armand Petitjean in France, originally as a fragrance house. The name "Lancôme" was inspired by the ruins of a castle, Le Château de Lancosme, while the roses in the area inspired the company’s symbol of the single golden rose. Lancôme launched its first five fragrances in 1935 at the World's Fair in Brussels: Tendre Nuit, Bocages, Conquete, Kypre and Tropiques.

Launched in 1978, Lancôme Magie Noire .. French for "Black Magic" .. is a legendary, intense, and enigmatic oriental-chypre fragrance known for its dark, spicy, and woody character. Often described as a witchy or a classic "power scent," it features a complex blend of Bulgarian Rose, Blackcurrant Buds, Honey, Patchouli, and animalic notes.

The Vibe of Magie Noir is mysterious, earthy, smoky, and "vampy" .. often described as smelling like a high priestess in a forest burning incense after rain.

Top Notes are Green Galbanum, Blackcurrant Bud or Cassis, Hyacinth, Raspberry, and Bulgarian Rose
Heart Notes are Honey, Narcissus, Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Cedar, and Orris Root
Base Notes are Heavy Oak Moss, Civet, Incense, Patchouli, Spices, Amber, and Myrrh

It is notoriously complex and dark, opening with green and earthy notes of galbanum and hyacinth that lead into a rich, velvety floral heart of rose, jasmine, and rose.

The base is often described as mysterious, slightly powdery, woody, and animalic, featuring oak moss, patchouli, amber, civet, and musk. It is considered one of the most successful "dark" fragrances, evoking feelings of mystery, seduction, and sophistication.

While baudruche and cord wrapping .. colisage .. are famous traditional French methods used to seal pure parfum extraits .. most notably by houses like Guerlain or Chanel .. Lancôme designed the original 1978 release of Magie Noire with a highly modern, futuristic aesthetic.

Instead of traditional strings, the vintage bottles relied on contemporary industrial seals. The highly coveted pure parfum flacons, such as the famous 7.5ml, 15ml, and 30ml round "Darth Vader" or plastic-ringed bottles designed by master bottle designer Pierre Dinand, featured a tight, friction-fit plastic or ground-glass stopper sleeve inside the neck to prevent evaporation.

Instead of a membrane tied down with string, the outer boxes were tightly factory-sealed in clear cellophane wrap to guarantee they were unopened.

Based on the bottom of the box, this bottle was manufactured in 1984. *The Batch Code (CK 1F) is the stamped code hidden inside the small white rectangular block near the top. In Lancôme's vintage 1980s batch system, C stands for the decade/production line indicator, K is the definitive year code designating 1984, and 1F indicates the specific factory batch run number.

This vintage version is praised for being deeper and spicier, while modern iterations are sometimes described as lighter. Magie Noire is generally recommended for evening wear or for those who prefer bold, old-school fragrances that last all day.
