Molyneux was founded by the British fashion designer Edward Molyneux from London. He opened his own fashion house in Paris in France in 1919 after working for the design house of Lucile. He dressed famous personalities, among them Greta Garbo, Gertrude Lawrence, Margaret Leighton and Vivien Leigh, and his designs were admired by Christian Dior and Pierre Balmain. Molyneux established his business in Paris at 5 Rue Royale.
Despite Molyneux’s great passion for clothing design, from around 1925 fragrances were produced and sold under the Molyneux brand name which is now owned by Perfume Berdoues. The first fragrance, Le Parfum Connu, was presented in 1925. Back then it was called Le Numéro Cinq. Legend has it that Edward Molyneux and Coco Chanel agreed on each one of them making their own “No. 5" and to wait and see which one would be the more successful one. No one knows for sure if this indeed is a legend or the truth, but assuming it was the truth, it would make sense to understand why Molyneux's Le Numéro Cinq had been renamed to La Parfum Connu.
Le Chic by Molyneux was launched in 1927. It was also created by Jacques Vogel as a beautiful and very feminine floral perfume based on a traditional floral accord in the same way that he created the perfume Vogue, but this time with lashings of delicious fruity notes.
Top notes are Bergamot, Mango, Peach, Black Currant, Raspberry, and Apricot
Middle notes are Rose, Peony, Lily of the Valley, Ylang Ylang, Jasmine, and Gardenia
Base notes are Oak Moss, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Vanilla, Labdanum, Tonka, and Iris
Offered here is a 50 ml. flacon of this beautiful perfume, still sealed. It is very hard to come across Le Chic these days .. So lovely and collectible. No box.
