Jeanne Paquin was born in Saint Denis, Paris. Jeanne’s first specialist training commenced as a dressmaker at a Fashion House of Rouff, and in 1891 she opened her own businss. She was then Jeanne Beckers. Her husband was known as Isidore Jacobs, an astute businessman.
Jeanne became the Vice Presidente de la Chambre Syndicate de la Couture in 1896. In that same year Maison Paquin took on some English Partners and opened in London.

In 1900, she was made the President of the Fashion Section of the Paris Universal International Exhibition and showed spectacular evening gowns, modelling some of them herself. She used pastel colours in a very feminine way for her evening gowns, and was soon identified by smart styling in her tailored clothes. One of her most important assets was the fact that she knew how to market her Fashion House in interesting ways, showing off her model’s in a vast number of Paris Events. She brought in some stunning oriental influence to her gowns and dresses.

She became connected with many Artists of the day including Leon Bakst, George Barbier, George Lepape and Paul Iribe. They all inspired one another in the quest for excellence. Jeanne Paquin was the first Parisian Couturier to open foreign branches in London, Buenos Aires and Madrid. Many important Fashion Journals promoted Jeanne Paquin’s designs with drawings, colour plates and photography. Modes & Travaux, La Mode Illustee, L’Illustration and Les Modes are a few.

Paquin was a moderately known, but successful perfumer as well as her great success in couture. She was considered an innovative and very successful couturier, and had her premises at 3 rue de la Paix, Paris in 1890. She opened a branch in London, and introduced perfumes from 1939, merging with Worth in 1954. The couture house closed in 1962.

Goya was launched in 1953, and is classified as an oriental feminine floral.

Base notes are Sandalwood, Vetiver, and Patchouli

Offered here is a beautiful flacon of this now long disappeared Goya perfume, still sealed and pristine, with almost minimal evaporation, attesting to an excellent seal. Desirable and very collectible .. !
