Established in 1798 by Pierre Francois Lubin in Paris, France, the house of Lubin is one of the most distinguished French houses in perfumery. Initially a small shop selling perfumed accessories to the nobility of the Imperial Court, the business eventually moved into the producing its own range of fragrances which have gone on to be revered by scent lovers around the world. Today, the house of Lubin preserves its noble history whilst embracing 21st century design concepts, making Lubin a unique and vital force in the modern olfactory landscape.

Amidst the turmoil of the French revolution emerged Pierre Francois Lubin’s legendary fragrance empire. Founded in 1798 at rue Sainte Anne in Paris, Lubin is one of the world’s oldest and most illustrious perfume houses. Quickly winning the favor of the Imperial court and the subsequent Bourbon monarchy, Lubin became renowned throughout Europe for its captivating, original fragrances. Over 200 years later, the perfume house still maintains its reputation for innovative, complex blends of the highest quality. Exotic touches and decadent ingredients evoke the splendor of the royal courts, transforming the wearer of these fragrant elixirs into modern day royalty.

Pierre-François Lubin, one of the greatest perfume makers ever, was born in 1774. His life spanned one of the most turbulent times of French history. Lubin was initiated to perfumery by Tombarelli, a perfume master in Grasse. In 1790, he came to Paris to complete his training under Jean-Louis Fargeon, who was then still serving as the official perfumer to Queen Marie-Antoinette. Even during her imprisonment in the Tour du Temple, the French Queen would still receive regular supplies from her loyal perfumer. Every day she wore an eau de toilette containing citrus notes. Her favorite was the scent of roses, a fragrance Fargeon captured with great skill.

Just after the French Revolution, Pierre François Lubin founded his Perfume House, at rue Sainte Anne in Paris. He provided perfumed ribbons, ball masks and rice powders to the “Incroyables” and “Merveilleuses”. His most famous creation however was the “Eau Vivifiante” later called “Eau de Lubin”. The fragrance soon won him the favour of the Imperial court. And so began Lubin’s renown thanks to Empress Joséphine and Pauline Bonaparte, Princess Borghèse. When the Bourbon monarchy was restored, the perfumer dedicated his fragrances to Queen Marie-Amélie.

Thanks to these gentle ladies, the crowned heads of Europe began to trust Lubin. Among his documents are proudly displayed the Coats of Arms of France, the King of England, and the Russian Tsar. He also added the American Eagle to his list, as he was the first perfume maker to conquer the New World in 1830. From the banks of the Mississippi to the palaces of India, his fragrances would soon be famous the world over.
