The perfume line of Weil was founded by three brothers who each had energetic and cheerful temperaments and found their inspiration for perfumes in the luxury fur business. Luxurious furs, the Roaring Twenties, high fashion .. all the circumstances drove Weil's creators, Alfred, Jacques and Marcel Weil to present something extraordinary alongside their exquisite furs.

Perfumer Claude Frayesse in cooperation with Marcel Weil made the first perfumes which were presented in stunning Baccarat flacons back in 1927. Their name is associatee with the most expensive furs .. Zibeline, Chinchilla, Royal and Hermine. After Marcel Weil's death in 1933 the company did not stop expanding their fragrance collection and added several other extraordinary perfumes, including Bambou, Cassandra and Noir.

In 1927, Marcel Weil of Les Fourrures Weil created Parfums Weil with their advertisements of “perfumes for furs”. These were based on a direct request from a regular client for a perfume suitable for wearing on furs. These were their first commercial perfumes that were advertised would guarantee not to harm the furs.

It is classified as a light woody oriental perfume with a dominant tuberose notes. "The perfume " Noir " has proved so successful that Messrs. Weil, the furriers, have launched two similar products, an eau de cologne and a toilet water, both marketed under the same name."

Vogue, 1938 wrote "Black worn in new ways, for example, black unrelieved except by one single, dramatic jewel. Black velvet bows, knots of black ribbon, in evening coiffures. Black accessories. Even black perfume .. Weil's "Noir" .. not, obviously, raven-hued in itself, but created expressly to bring out the fathomless lure of black. And to be worn, the makers say, with black only." Top notes are Aldehydes, Mandarin, Peach, and Bergamot
Middle notes are Jasmine, Rose, Tuberose, Iris, Orange Blossom, and Camphor
Base notes are Ambergris, Incense, Styrax, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Leather, Orris, Vetiver, and Oak Moss

"I would classify this as a floral oriental, with the depth of a chypre. The juice is very dark, opaque. The blending is masterful. Nothing stands away from the other ingredients. The camphor is very lightly mixed and the usual center stage tuberose manages to be a team player and part of the ensemble here. It is odd to my nose in that it manages to be light, while at the same time possessing great depth, drawing me in to experience its sensual depths. Definitely for the mature woman (or man – definitely a unisex scent). Warm, rich, enveloping. Truly a masterwork in my experience of vintage orientals.

One must recall that this was not designed as a body perfume, but one for furs, so that the tuberose/camphor combo might have been uplifting when going out into the cold, giving one a joyous boost to enjoy whatever event one is heading for." Basenotes Review, Jack Twist
