Established by Ernest Daltroff in 1904, Parfums Caron was originally located on Rue de la Paix in Paris. Daltroff purchased the perfumery from Anne-Marie Caron and kept the original name. At the same time, he met Félicie Wanpouille, who became his partner and an important contributor to the rise of the house. While Daltroff created fragrances, Wanpouille designed bottles and served as an artistic director.

From the beginning, Parfums Caron was the house dedicated solely to fragrance, unlike houses like Chanel or Christian Dior that were first and foremost fashion houses. While the perfume houses produced more fragrances than fashion houses, by the 1920s women started to look at perfume the same way they regarded new fashion styles. However, as the couture fragrances became more and more popular, they provided a stable point in the ever changing world fashion, therefore the pace of perfume production began to decline. Subsequently, however, Caron has burst back into the front runners of a very elite and niche market perfume business. Bois de Jasmin.

Launched in 1927, Pois de Senteur by Caron is a Floral fragrance for women, The nose behind this fragrance is Ernest Daltroff. With a large bouquet of flowers Ernest Daltroff evokes the sweetest fragrance, slightly balsamic and a little bitter, but redolent with sweet peas. Daltroff managed, in his beautifully compressed instinctualism, to really capture, and even quite deeply eroticize, something at the heart of of the actual sweet pea’s scent. He conveys the honeyed notes almost imperceptibly present in sweet pea flowers, and then the full weight of the perfume begins to dawn. As the soft green bitterness fades, it leaves in its heart a very floral note of jasmine, with a touch of ‘pink' that does not appear in the notes, but which nevertheless seems present.

"Rose tincture, hyacinth, cyclamen, jasmine and muguet team up with vanilla, lime, Virginia cedar and musk as well as the famously obfuscated house signature of mousse de saxe, and somehow, thus, in this blend, if not quite entirely, somehow, ensnare the full plenitude of the very finely membraned, and shy-looking, air of its innocent, June-breathed, flowers. In this sweet bouquet, still a little powdery, honeyed notes gradually, intensify, thicken, and then slowly change from gold to a dark caramel colour.”
