Lancôme Paris is a French cosmetics company launched by Armand Petitjean, a former Coty employee, in 1935. The company's name was inspired by the ruins of a castle, Le Château de Lancosme, and the brand's rose symbol was inspired by the roses that surround it. Lancôme originated as a perfume company, launching five fragrances in time for the 1935 World's Fair in Brussels, Belgium.

Kypre was according to some sources Armand Petitjean's favourite creation among his pleiad of scents .. and smelling it it is not difficult to see how it's easy to grow fond of it. Technically it is a soft leathery chypre, it presents a suaveness of character that is less strident than earlier leathers. The beginning surprises one with its almost aldehydic soapy and fresh embrace, copious amounts of jasmine and rose leading as a classical bouquet. Kypre is a feminine perfume by Lancôme. The scent was launched in 1935. The bottle was designed by Georges Delhomme

Perfume Shrine "detects some sweetness of violets along with the soapiness, lifting the fragrance and feminizing it. While the feel of a classical chypre is firmly anchored on the juxtaposition of bergamot to oak moss and labdanum, in Kypre the idea is fanned out on powdery, whispered tones that cede into a sort of ambery, iris and face-powdery background. A beautiful neoclassical scent, Kypre retains a certain allure of something that can be still admired and worn with pleasure even decades later."

Kypre, a play on “chypre,” is categorized as a soft leather chypre. It is said to be Petitjean’s favorite of his own creations.

Top Notes are Bergamot, and Plum
Heart Notes are Jasmine, Rose, Cistus, Labdanum, Violet, and Orris
Base Notes are Ambergris, Patchouli, and Oak Moss

This is a stunning floral chypre with rich, plummy notes and a large amount of both rose and jasmine. The classic chypre combo of bergamot, labdanum and oak moss firmly entrench it in that category. The very light use of the animalic ambergris, musk and civet give it a complexity that is sensually intriguing. The orris provides a soft, powdery suede-like leather vibe. "This gorgeous Kypre is characterised by an accord composed of citrus top-notes, a middle centered on cistus labdanum, and a mossy-animalic base-note derived from oak moss and musk. There are notes of leather, florals, fruits, and amber. The perfume is characterized by the contrast between the fresh citrus accord and the woody-oakmoss base, with a hint of indispensable patchouli."

Offered here is a very well preserved flacon of this wonderful perfume in its original presentation box. It is no longer sealed and has been gently used. Highly desirable and collectible.
