Established by Ernest Daltroff in 1904, Parfums Caron was originally located on Rue de la Paix in Paris. Daltroff purchased the perfumery from Anne-Marie Caron and kept the original name. At the same time, he met Félicie Wanpouille, who became his partner and an important contributor to the rise of the house. While Daltroff created fragrances, Wanpouille designed bottles and served as an artistic director.

Caron is the second-oldest Parisian perfume house still active today, and one of the last great houses devoted entirely to fragrances. Caron’s fragrances respond to, and capture the spirit of their times—from WWI to modern women, their scents reflect both personal emotions and historical moments. The company has been able to adapt to changes in society while staying true to its own tradition. Even Caron’s modern perfumes continue to be both unique and timeless.

From the beginning, Parfums Caron was the house dedicated solely to fragrance, unlike houses like Chanel or Christian Dior that were first and foremost fashion houses. While the perfume houses produced more fragrances than fashion houses, by the 1920s women started to look at perfume the same way they regarded new fashion styles as Marylène Delbourg-Delphis noted in her book Les Sillages des Elégantes (1983). However, as the couture fragrances became more and more popular, they provided a stable point in the ever changing world fashion, therefore the pace of perfume production began to decline. Subsequently, however, Caron has burst back into the front runners of a very elite and niche market perfume business. Boid de Jasmin.

Daltroff was a true experimentalist when it came to fragrance creation in his departure from the traditional reproduction of floral scents. He used synthetics and rare absolutes daringly, and would not shy away from exotic combinations. Although Caron fragrances are rather diverse, despite being created by the same perfumer, many of them share a wonderfully dark undercurrent, which is based on a blend of geranium, licorice, leather, iodine, and vanillin. This accord gained the name of “Mousse de Saxe,” revealing its mossy, dark and cool edge.

Launched at first in 1949, Caron's Rose Extrait is really the ultimate rose perfume of today. This composition combines different absolutes of roses, including May rose and Centifolia rose. Topped with a hint Geranium for earthiness and a note of mint for freshness. The nose behind this fragrance is Michel Morsetti.

Perfume notes are May Rose, Centifolia Rose, Geranium, Orris, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Mint, Musk, and Neroli.

Top notes are May Rose, Rose Centifolia, Bulgarian Rose, Neroli, and Aloe Vera
Heart notes are Rose, Mint, Vetiver, and Geranium
Base notes are Rose, Iris, Vanilla, and Sandalwood

This exquisite perfume was discontinued because its manufacturing had become too costly. The fragrance is absolutely amazing, rich, deep, long-lasting, nostalgic and unforgettable. Caron has relaunched it in a spray bottle and it is utterly beautiful and every bit as wonderful as the non spray version.

Offered here is a fabulous one ounce spray flacon of this overwhelmingly beautiful fragrance from Les Fontaines. It is utterly and irrevocably the ultimate rose perfume ever!
