Forvill perfume and cosmetics company was established in 1922, at 1 rue de Castiglione,Paris France. The company was started by Leo Fink as 'Forvil', with La Perle Noire and Le Corail Rouge as his first perfumes, both sold in bottles designed by Lalique. Like Chanel and Molyneux, Forvil also launched a No. 5.

Forvil stands for the magnificence of a perfume and cosmetics brand born under the epoch of the roaring twenties. This era was truly unique in European history; it was a period of artistic extravagance and sensual and intellectual folly, thanks to which objects of luxury were bestowed with an unprecedented refinement and sense of harmony. And Forvil successfully concentrated the essence of that bygone era into perfume.

In 1923, the company was sold to La Societe Anonyme les Dentifrices du Docteur Pierre Mussot, a company established in 1837 by Dr. Pierre Mussot, and renamed Forvil.

Originally launched in 1911, Forvil's Chypre in its Eau de Cologne form is a refreshing and enervating splash, wonderful for the summer months, and used by both men and women. Modeled after the first chypre perfume ever, which was launched by Coty, Forvil's version is lovely.

Francois Coty's Chypre was the chypre that started it all, and was so named as an homage to those scents that perfumed the island of Cyprus which were comprised of a combination of woods, moss and citrus. Henceforth, thanks to this groundbreaking perfume, all perfumes in the chypre category contain some combination of a sparkling citrus note, usually bergamot, some floral heart notes, and then they rest on bases of vetiver, oakmoss, labdanum and patchouli.

Some classic, early scents can be enjoyed only for their historical notoriety, as the first perfumes that open the door for later, superior incarnations. At once fresh and bracing, warm and woodsy, and softly floral, Chypre dries down on the skin into what can only be described as a powdery butter that leaves an almost milky richness, combined with a disquieting hint of civet and musk. It has tremendous longevity on the skin, and even after bathing, I can still detect its exquisitely haunting notes.

Top notes are Bergamot, Neroli, and Orange Blossom
Heart notes are Jasmine, Rose, Lilac, and Orris
Base notes are Vanillin, Coumarin, Oak Moss, Patchouli, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Labdanum, and Styrax
