Marcel Guerlain, Coffret Set, Aux Fleurs, Origan, Tabac Fleuri, 3 x 25 ml. or 0.87 oz. Flacons, Parfum Extrait, 1925, Paris, France ..

Two other Parisian perfume companies should not be confused with the Guerlain family company, and they are Marcel Guerlain and Hughes Guerlain. These names are not affiliated with the Pierre-Francois Guerlain family although Marcel Guerlain was the same name as one of the heirs to the Guerlain family, there was no other connection. In light of this confusion, the Guerlain family adopted the slogan "Nous n'avons pas de prenon" (We have no first name) and brought a successful lawsuit against Marcel Guerlain, who then changed his company's name to the Societe des Parfumeurs Francais. Marcel Guerlain was then using his own slogan when advertising in the USA: "no connection with any firm of similar name".

Marcel Guerlain had a London office located at Parfums- Marcel Guerlain, Ltd., 252 to 260, Regent Street, London, W.l. He also had a shop in the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. The Arts, 1929 wrote .. “About six stores have lately been opened throughout New York by Marcel Guerlain, Inc., a Parisian firm selling powder and other feminine necessaries.”

Marcel Guerlain founded his perfume company in 1922, and produced perfumes and cosmetics. He opened a splendid shop at 86 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honore in Paris. Marcel Guerlain’s perfume bottles were often made by Baccarat and Depinoix. The bottle for “8 et 9” was made by Depinoix. He also formed seven other perfume companies such as the Hughes Guerlain company and launched several fragrances, probably manufactured in the late 1920s, 1930s and early 1940s. Other companies are Helene Gys (using HG initials), Gys, Marcel & Hughes La Societe de Parfumeurs Parisiens, Les Parfums d'Agnes, and Parfums Marlaine et Cie. You will notice that some of the perfume names are recycled between the different companies.

Offered here is a lovely old coffret containing three of Marcel's perfumes, Aux Fleurs, Origan, and Tabac Fleuri. I have determined that these lovely flacons are just less than an ounce, and have listed them as containing 25 ml. or 0.87 oz.

While there are no remaining notes on these rare perfumes, I am going to suggest the following:

Aux Fleurs is likely to be a soft feminine floral, a nod to Quelques Fleurs by Houbigant. The notes are likely to be similar.

Top Notes include Bergamot, Neroli, Lemon, and Orange Blossom
Heart Notes are Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Violet, Rose absolute, Ylang ylang, Carnation, Broom, Tuberose, and Lilac
Base notes are Galbanum, Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Orris, and Tonka bean

Origan is likely to be a nod to the ever popular L'Origan from Coty. The notes are likely to be similar. One of the very first of the modern perfumes .. a superb blend .. a warm, rich, floral chypre that is at the same time dense and light.

Top notes are Bergamot, Neroli, Mandarin, Coriander, Pepper, and Peach
Heart notes are Carnation, Jasmine, Rose, Violet, Ylang, Orris, and Orchid
Base notes are Coumarin, Vanilla, Cedar, Sandalwood, Benzoin, Labdanum

Tabac Fleuri is going to be composed in a similar way to Cherigan's Fleurs de Tabac. The notes will be similar.

Top notes are Orange Blossom, Orange, Neroli, Lemon, and Bergamot
Heart notes are Tobacco, Tarragon, Birch, Carnation, and Orris
Base notes are Frankincense, Myrrh, Amber, Patchouli, Leather, Vanilla, and Ambergris

These lovely old perfumes are all still sealed and in tact. Some evaporation over the years. The red velvety presentation box is a little fragile. Each bottle is engraved with the signature of Marcel Guerlain. Highly collectible.
