René Jules Lalique was born in 1860, in the village of Ay, in the Champagne region of France. Two years later, his father, a Parisian mercantile agent, moves his family to a suburb of Paris. They return to Ay for summer holidays, and Lalique will have a lifelong attachment to his native countryside. In 1872 René entered the Collège Turgot where he begins studying drawing with Justin-Marie Lequien.

In 1876 after the death of his father, René begins working as an apprentice to the jeweler and goldsmith Louis Aucoc. Aucoc was among the leading luxury jewelers in Paris and under his guidance, René gains practical experience, learning rudimentary skills and the properties of a jeweler's raw materials. René also attends evening classes at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs. In 1878 he moved to London to continue his studies. He spent two years in London, where he attended the Sydenham College located in the Crystal Palace. In the freedom of his new environment, Lalique cultivates his graphic design skills, and develops a unique and naturalistic style that would later become his trademark as a jeweller. He later began to incorporate glass into his designs.

In 1908, François Coty commissioned Lalique to design his perfume labels. As a result, Lalique created his first perfume bottles for François Coty. The teamwork of these two would eventually revolutionize the perfume industry, by presenting fine perfumes in attractive containers at affordable prices. He rented the Combs-la-Ville glassworks. By 1909 Lalique continued to experiment with glass manufacturing techniques, applying technology from French wine and pharmaceutical industries. The history of Lalique is inextricably bound up with the history of perfume itself. René Lalique, the most innovative glass designer of his time .. almost certainly of all time, in fact .. created the flacons for many of the world’s most exclusive and iconic perfumes.

Offered here is one of Lalique’s bottles from the collection named “Les Introuvables, the Ultimate Collection”. Initiated by Marie-Claude Lalique to celebrate the birth of her first perfume .. Lalique de Lalique .. limited, signed and numbered editions of collector's flacons have become an annual event.

This exquisite signed and numbered flacon is filled with 'Lalique de Lalique', a fragrance created in 1992 by Sophia Grojsman. It is a musky floral, a totally feminine and radiant fragrance born from a burst of flowers, enhanced by slightly fruity, vanilla and musky flavours. The design of the flacon itself is named ‘Catogan’ or ’The Hair Bow’, and depicts a bow or tie that would gather the lady's hair in at the base of the neck. The bottle is beautiful and is exquisitely sculpted and lightly frosted in traditional Lalique style.

Top notes are Rose, Jasmine, Orange Blossom, Chinese Gardenia, Clove Flower, and Orris
Heart Notes are Magnolia, Mandarin, Peony, Ylang Ylang, Blackcurrant Leaves, Blackberry, and Pear
Base notes are Amber, Vanilla, Cedar, Oak Moss, Sandalwood, and Vanilla

These beautiful flacons are hard to find in perfect condition and are extremely collectible. This one comes in its beautiful presentation coffret and has its original outer box. It is in immaculate condition. Originally sold for $950. This is a numbered flacon, 627/750, and was released in 1999.
